No. 23 Allegiant Chevrolet Camaro
Las Vegas Recap
Spencer Gallagher arrived in Las Vegas for the third race in his NASCAR XFINITY Series rookie campaign and first start at his home track. The No. 23 Allegiant team started Saturday’s Boyd Gaming 300 from the 24th position. In the early stages of the race, the Las Vegas native radioed-in that he was struggling with a tight-handling chassis causing him to drop back in the field. Gallagher went a lap down, but rejoined the lead lap after receiving the Lucky Dog on lap 70. Crew chief Joey Cohen called Gallagher to come to pit road multiple times so the GMS Racing crew could make adjustments to help with the handling of the chassis, using pit strategy to gain track position late in the race. Gallagher was racing just outside the top 10 before getting tagged by Matt Tifft for the ninth caution of the day. The incident resulted in Gallagher pitting for the No. 23 Allegiant team to replace a left rear tire and survey damage. He restarted at the back of the field and finished 23rd in his first NXS start at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
“The No. 23 Allegiant Chevy was really tight to begin with but Joey (Cohen) made some great calls atop the pit box to get the balance where it needed to be. We were running in the top 15 with the big dogs at one point and having a really good day. It’s a shame what happened late in the race. I got into the wall, I think I got the air taken off of me a little bit but that’s hard racing. People run out of room on the track and things happen. We will build on this and get ready for Phoenix Raceway.”
– Gallagher is in the 25th position in NXS Driver points.
