No. 23 Allegiant Chevrolet Camaro
Spencer Gallagher and the No. 23 Allegiant Chevrolet team started from the 20th position at Talladega Superspeedway for the NASCAR XFINITY Series Sparks Energy 300.
Working with the draft, Gallagher showed strength and speed at the start of the 113-lap race. In an early race incident, Gallagher got into the back of Erik Jones, causing damage to the front bumper. Under the first caution, crew chief Joey Cohen called Gallagher to pit road on lap 8 from the 18th position for fuel and damage repair to the Allegiant Chevy. Restarting from the 37th position, Gallagher charged through the field reaching as high as the 13th-position in seven laps. Gallagher tried to make the high line work but fell back into the 19th position. When the second caution occurred on lap 22, the No. 23 Allegiant crew’s day ended early when another competitor clipped the right front of Gallagher’s car when he was trying to avoid the multi-car wreck. The Las Vegas native came to pit road and the crew worked on the car under the five-minute clock. Crew chief Joey Cohen declared the No. 23 done for the day after finding out there was a suspension problem that they could not repair, relegating Gallagher and the No. 23 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet to finish in the 39th position, multiple laps down.
“I really hate it for my GMS Racing team. We had a really fast Allegiant Chevrolet and to end our day so early is disappointing, to say the least. There was really nothing that I could have done differently to avoid that wreck. You have to have luck on your side at these plate tracks and it was not on our side today.”
– Gallagher is 16th in driver points and 24th owner point standings.
