No. 23 Allegiant Chevrolet Camaro

Bristol Recap:

Spencer Gallagher and the No. 23 Allegiant Chevrolet team started from the 33rd position at Richmond International Raceway for the ToyotaCare 250 NASCAR XFINITY Series race. The Las Vegas native got off to a strong start, gaining four positions in the first 10 laps. Gallagher reported to crew chief Joey Cohen that he was experiencing a loose handling condition primarily on entry, but was more concerned about drive through the corner as the green-flag run continued. The team made adjustments during the first caution for the end of stage one, with Gallagher restarting in the 26th position, one lap down. Gallagher was named the lucky dog on lap 182 and pitted for a chassis adjustment just before the field returned to green.

Eventually going down a lap to the leader once again, Cohen reminded his driver to take care of his car as he expected there would be multiple late race cautions that would allow the Allegiant team to return to the lead lap and gain position. As the leaders pitted for tires late in the race, Gallagher took the wave around, saving one set of tires for the end of the event. Two cautions within the final 10 laps allowed Gallagher to pit for fresh tires while his competitors remained on track. He restarted in the 17th position and avoided one final wreck to gain seven spots and earn his first top-10 finish of the 2017 season.

“What an incredible ending for our Allegiant team today. To say we didn’t struggle would be unfair with the amount of work these guys put in over the course of those 250 laps. We didn’t start off as strong as we would have liked and those long green flag runs certainly didn’t help, but we anticipated there would be several cautions at the end and luckily we had a set of tires left to help us gain some additional spots and make it past those wrecks. Joey (Cohen, crew chief) and the team did a phenomenal job. I couldn’t be more proud of what this team has accomplished so far this year.”

Additional Info:

– Gallagher’s 10th place finish at Richmond is his highest non-plate finish and second-career top 10.
– Gallagher gained three spots in both the driver and owner point standings and is currently 14th and 21st, respectively.
