No. 23 Kingman Chevrolet Camaro
Spencer Gallagher collected his season-best NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) finish of 18th place at Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) on Saturday. The team worked diligently to find the correct balance in the No. 23 Kingman Chevrolet throughout the weekend. Gallagher qualified in the 22nd position, but dropped to the back of the field to start the race due to a flat tire in qualifying. Early in the 200-lap event, the Las Vegas native battled the same tight handling conditions experienced in practice and went a lap down. Gallagher brought the No. 23 to pit road for the team to work on the balance multiple times, improving handling enough for the driver to work on advancing his position. The team’s luck turned around after the sixth caution came out on lap 157 and Gallagher was declared the lucky dog placing him back on the lead lap in the 26th position. Despite the handling problems over the course of the event, Gallagher fought until the checkered flag flew, finishing 18th in his second NXS start at PIR.
Start – 22nd Finish – 18th
“Bringing home an 18th place finish is honestly a great end to the day with the car we had. Balance was our number one issue this weekend. We just couldn’t find the stability that was needed to compete with the top teams and it hurt us. We need to regroup and focus on bringing a strong piece to Auto Club (Speedway) next weekend.”
– Gallagher sits 22nd in driver points and 34th in owner points.
