Sam Mayer No. 21 Manpower U.S. Chevrolet
|START: 1st | FINISH: 2nd|
|Notes & Quotes:— -Mayer was quick out of the gate with his Manpower Chevrolet. The K&N East Champion was first in practice and qualified on pole for Saturday night’s event.|
– The early stages of the race were calm with Mayer leading every lap until the caution flew for the scheduled break on Lap 53 of the 100-lap event. The No. 21 pitted during the break for four tires and fuel, making no other adjustments.
– The last half of the race was chaos in comparison to Mayer’s comfortable lead during the opening laps. Mayer lost the lead on a restart after the first red flag of the evening had been lifted. The caution quickly flew again and Mayer made the most of the next restart, he regained the lead and began to pull away. The caution flew again several laps later and Mayer lost the lead on the restart after getting pushed up the track and into the No. 2, causing moderate damage to the door of his No. 21. Mayer chased the leader in the closing laps but ultimately finished a few car lengths short of being able to retake his lead.
“I learned a lot this weekend. We had some highs and lows. Our car was very good today on the long runs, the restarts and short runs were a bit more of a challenge for me. My guys worked hard with me all season long. We’ll keep digging and I’m looking forward to getting back here next year to compete for an ARCA championship.”
