Notes & Quotes:—– Sheldon Creed won stage one of the NextEra 250 at Daytona International Speedway.- Creed was involved in several incidents on track on Lap 53 and Lap 98, ultimately ending his night early.“Overall I’ really proud of all the GMS guys with the level of equipment they brought down here this week. Especially No. 2 guys who kept digging and kept our United Rentals Chevy in it until the final stage. We went out there and led some laps early on and got that first stage win, which was a goal coming into the weekend.NASCAR called that penalty and we only had a few laps left in that stage, we wanted to get as much as we could. You give all you can on restarts and I was pushing trying to get out there and get clear and we could’ve controlled it together. it’s just one of those deals really, you’ve got to go but you can’t push. That’s what got me and Brett (Moffitt, GMS Racing teammate) back there and we got caught up in that incident. At the end it was just classic superspeedway racing. I had a good run with two laps to go and I tried to make it work, at least we were around in the final stage to try to make something happen. With the damage I tried to make it as far as I could, but in the middle of Turns 3 and 4 the fire got really hot and my main goal was just to get out of the truck as quickly as possible.”
Brett Moffitt, No. 24 PlanBSales.com Chevrolet Silverado
START: 8thFINISH:26thPOINTS:22nd
Notes & Quotes:—– Brett Moffitt led seven laps in the NextEra 250 at Daytona International Speedway.- Moffitt’s night ended early after being involved with an accident on Lap 53.“I had a very fast PlanBSales.com Chevy Silverado tonight. The entire team at GMS Racing put together an awesome truck and for the first time I actually had fun superspeedway racing because the truck was so fast and it drove so good. Especially when we got linked up with another GMS Racing teammate we were just hauling. I wish we could’ve gotten back to the front after that penalty. We were being aggressive drafting but so was everyone around us. That’s essentially what caused us being back in the pack to get caught up in that incident but it is what it is. I’ve ended the last three years here on the hook and last year I went the next week and won so hopefully we can repeat that in Atlanta.”
